The writing of the linear notes was a special process for us. Since most of the music was instrumental, we wanted the listeners to interpret and be influenced by their own hearts. In hopes of accomplishing this, we elected to share the history rather than the intent behind each composition. Some compositions were more difficult to interpret because they didn't come to the artist table with much of a history. They were created through a fusion of feelings, ideas, music concepts and improvisation. |
Jasmine was a fusion of ideas between Victor, Kevin, and myself. I came to rehearsal with the chordial layout and some melody sections: Kevin and Victor would subsequently help finish the song with their melodic contributions; thus, Jasmine (Jazz-Men) came to bloom. -- Roberto |

Mi Amor is one of our very special songs. I had come from a session with the guitar player of Pau Brazil. I told Robert that I felt like writing a composition with some of the rhythms that I had been introduced to. He told me that was great because he had been kicking around some lyrical ideas in Spanish. I woke up the next morning consumed with musical energy and wrote the music for Mi Amor in just a few hours. It wasn't in the Brazillian style, but it worked. I introduced it to Robert the same morning, and it was if we both had dreamed about it. He had his lyrical ideas exploding out of his heart. I played my guitar; he sang. Mi Amor was born. Thank you Robert for your beautiful melodies and words. -- Vic |

Knowing the majority of our music has a guitar, vocal, or piano lead, I decided to write music that a bass player could show his talents. Basses Loaded offered not only two bass players playing at the same time, but allowed Kevin to musically express himself. Nice work Kevin. -- Robert |

This composition was inspired by the helplessness I feel when confronting the countless atrocities to the human spirit. My gratitude to Robert, Nelson, and Vince for the transfer of emotion from the noteson the paper to their instruments. -- Vic |

I believe that in our own quiet way Robert and I have always wanted to compose a song that embraced the area and culture we came from. Many a night, my mother would sit on the front porch swing, singing a cappella to these old Spanish songs. At times, she would be joined by my sisters and my aunts. As for Robert's mother, she would often be singing as she did her chores. Meanwhile, Robert's father would be teaching him how to play the guitar and accordion; consequently, Robert and his father would spend many times enjoying each other's company through music. Our collaborative Experience was not only special through our similar backgrounds, but was also heightened by our shared travels through the long southern roads of Texas. -- Vic |

There are those times in our life that are consumed with extreme pressure and circumstances. Answers seldom come as rapid as we would wish. It is in these times that our wishes can become clearer at the dawning of a new day. Patience is a virtue, and if we are fortunate, we can relish in this thought, if we can only Wait Til Morning. -- Vic |

What would it take, to make things right?
How do I trust your heart
How do we make it through the night?
Yes, I know that you're upset right now.
And oooohh my love, it's been such a long day.
And so, to preserve what we feel for each other,
We have to be careful what we do.
We have to be careful what we say.
And who's to say, who's right, who's wrong?
The look that's in your eyes makes me feel so all alone.
Trust our love, and help me ease the pain.
And oooohhh my love
Together we can work this out.
Tonight let's live in our love for each other
And come the morning light, we'll forget what we fought about.
Why do we fight my dear?
Is this true love we're saving here?
Before our love disappears,
Can't it wait 'til morning?
Why do we fuss-n-fight?
We should be making love tonight.
If you feel the need to fight,
Can't it wait 'til morning?
Wait 'til morning.
I would just walk away, if not for your love.
It means so much to me.
And I tried so hard, sooo hard
Not to get careless with our love.
We will survive, because I love you
We stay alive, because I love you too.
So tell me, tell me whyyyy . . .
Why do we fight my dear?
Is this true love we're saving here.
Before our love disappears,
Can't it wait 'til morning.
Why do we fuss and fight
We should be making love
If you feel the need to fight
Can't it wait 'til morning
Wait 'til morning
Wait 'til morning
Can't it wait
Til morning light
Can't it wait
We don't need to fight
We don't need to fight
Can't it wait
We should be making love
We should be making love
Can't it wait
Making love all night
Can't it wait
At one time or another, we are faced to make a decision that could change our lives. I came to that crossing deciding to leave my home surroundings and relocate to pursue a desire, career, and love. Desierto Corazon (Desert Heart) was that moment during that travel and feeling alone as I approached my destination. -- Robert |

Robert and I conveived this song at Tom Chalmers' secluded and beautiful mountain cabin. With Graham Russell's help and the inspiration of his wonderful mountain home and its surroundings, we finished the rest of this composition. Second Wind was not only inspired by our surroundings, but by the music, spirit, and inspiration of Steve Mesple and Joe Scott, the guitar players for the band Wind Machine. -- Vic |

I'd like to thank Ann Biamonte for her endless energy and the inspiration to write The Red-Tailed Diamond. The song is about her will and spirit. She was learning how to be a drummer, and she would not give up until she learned. Her will to learn gave me the will to teach. Thank you Ann, The Red-Tailed Diamond, a diamond in the rough. -- Kevin |

Victor had given me a call from Colorado while I was still living in Texas. We had done many one to three song gigs that one day we thought we might do something bigger musically. In August 1990, Victor had booked a December gig in Boulder, Colorado. He had asked if I could come up and "simply move" to Colorado so we could continue our dream. As I was getting the details of the gig, it was difficult to get a question in due to Victor's excitement of his booking. "Oh Robert," he explained, "we got a gig and we are going to play in Boulder, and at a nice hotel, and we get to dress up, and, and, and." I then had to say loudly, "Victor, how much time do they want us to play?" Victor paused and said, "Two hours." I calmly explained, "Victor, we only have two original songs to play." We both chuckled and added that we don't even have a band. Journey Home was one of several songs written during the Autumn's Run to meet our deadline. Necessity is the mother of invention (in our case, to write music). -- Robert |

Brasas is Spanigh for live or hot coals. Like most times the creative and collaborative experience cannot be measured or expressed in words. It happens in its own time and place. One snowy mountain morning, the collaborative experience between Robert and I was like the fire of hot coals. Thank you Kevin and Graham for contributing to the Brasas of this composition. -- Vic |
